The Royal Canadian Mint (RCM) made history in 2018 when they struck their iconic Silver Maple Leaf for the first time with an incuse design. The inward projecting relief provided a fascinating effect, especially when combined with the selective gilding and rhodium plating used on the 2019 and 2020 incuse Maple issues. But it seems the mint was only scratching the surface of their capabilities...
Starting in 2021, RCM is taking the term "incuse" to all new depths! Previous incuse Maple Leaf issues featured a standard incused depth of 0.3mm, but thanks to a new minting technology developed by RCM, the beautiful Maple Leaf design on the 2021 Reverse Proof Maple Leaf is struck 1.5mm into the coin's surface! That's 5 times the depth of previous Incuse Maple Leaf designs! It's so deep it nearly reaches the center of coin, sinking down to 40% of the coin's total thickness.
The reverse design, unchanged since the Maple Leaf's debut in 1979, features Walter Ott's iconic sugar maple leaf design. The reverse also includes the engraved words "CANADA", "FINE SILVER", "1 OZ", "ARGENT PUR" and "9999". Also included on the reverse design is a special "25" maple leaf privy mark in honor of the 25th anniversary of the arboreal emblem of Canada, the maple tree. The obverse like all other Maple Leaf issues features an effigy of Queen Elizabeth II along with the inscriptions "20 DOLLARS" AND "2021".
This 2021 Canada Silver Reverse Proof Super Incuse Maple was struck at the Royal Canadian Mint. It has been certified Reverse PF70 First Day of Issue by NGC!!
