For sale is a beautifully restored and rebuilt rare vintage Briggs & Stratton 3 HP engine. This vintage engine has been meticulously, painstakingly, and professionally restored by a retired Certified Briggs & Stratton Master Service Technician (MST) with a great attention to detail. It features high-quality heat, oil, and gas resistant enamel engine paint including primer, color coats and clear coats, accurately reproduced (and period correct) decals, and numerous genuine Briggs & Stratton OEM replacement parts (See full itemized list below). The 5/8" diameter crankshaft is 2 1/4" in length, has a slotted keyway, and the end is internally threaded for the installation of a clutch or torque converter bolt
This engine is the matching horsepower, year, model, color, and overall look of the engines that came on many of the minibikes and go-karts manufactured from all around the country from back in the day. In addition, it is nearly identical to those engines that came on the Steen's "Taco" Minibikes manufactured in Alhambra, CA from the mid 1960's through the early 1970s. (See the actual original Steen's "Taco" Minibike ads in the photos). This engine would be 100% "period-correct" for either your daily rider, your current restoration project, or a show-quality bike. Please scroll down to the bottom of this listing to watch a high-quality video of this actual engine being started and ran.
This engine was 100% disassembled, then thoroughly cleaned (manually, and also in an ultrasonic cleaning machine), inspected, and rebuilt to full working order and is in excellent condition. All existing paint was stripped by media blasting down to bare metal. All internal parts including the block/bushings, cylinder bore, piston/rings, rod, crankshaft, valves including guides, lifters, and springs, cam and any/all other bearing/wear surfaces have been carefully visually inspected and then precisely measured using only professional-grade, precision instruments including dial bore gauges, calipers and micrometers. Wear measurements were then compared with factory-published and accepted Briggs & Stratton service wear limits and reject sizes. Any/all worn out, significantly worn (over 50%), broken, damaged, (physically and/or cosmetically) or otherwise non-functioning parts have been replaced with only genuine OEM Briggs & Stratton factory service replacement parts. The following are the replaced parts (All parts are only genuine Briggs & Stratton factory-produced parts):
- Original "Pulsa-Jet" carb disassembled and cleaned in an ultrasonic machine, then completely rebuilt (new diaphragm, new jet/needle, diaphragm cover trued (flattened), new gaskets, and exterior of carb polished.

This engine is being sold "as-is", in the exact condition as described and seen in the photos and video. While the engine is in perfect condition, please understand that this is a used engine (53 years old!) and as such, no warranty or guarantee is provided. All sales are final and there is no refund or exchange option. Please be aware that the original governor and throttle linkage have been removed (as a performance enhancement/upgrade), and the purchaser is advised to use caution and not over-rev the engine for extended periods of time which could cause engine damage. Furthermore, we highly recommend the installation of a simple digital tachometer like a "Tiny Tach" or equivalent (the type where the tach signal wire wraps around the spark plug wire) to monitor engine rpms and to avoid over-revving.
The engine will be carefully and thoughtfully packaged, then shipped via UPS Ground, including tracking information and insurance. All fluids (both oil and fuel) will be drained for shipping. Before starting the engine you will need to fill the crankcase and oil the foam air filter element with good-quality SAE 30WT motor oil. I only accept PayPal as method of payment. Please do not bid/purchase if you do not have a PayPal account. Immediate payment in full is required with all of my "Buy it Now" listings.
